The image of the Madonna is dressed in a tunic and cloak. The Child, who has lost his head, is holding the crown in a symbolic gesture of the coronation of the Virgin Mary as the image of the Church. The poor quality of the stone and the fact that it appears to have been used outdoors have led to its markedly worn appearance.
It is a Catalan work from the first stage of the Lleida school.
